Rainy Day Blues

Well you guessed it – it’s raining and big time at that. Huge great globules of the wet stuff pouring down and drenching the lambs next door.

The hawk has just been down and snatched something up from the ground whilst the blackbirds are hanging out looking very happy, digging up big fat worms.

Bob the Dog is snoring in the corner, his hips too arthritic for him to hop downstairs – or perhaps he’s just lazy…

Whatever it is, his gentle snoring is quite therapeutic and that, combined with the pitter patter of rain on the roof, has made me feel all cosy and sleepy.

However, a mad busy weekend coming so will head off to the kitchen now and start getting prepped…

Springtime Snow!

Wowsers, what a dump (of snow) that was!

Hundreds of people were trapped in their cars for several hours on the Napier – Taupo highway and had to be evacuated by 4 wheel drive cars and buses and taken to local maraes (Maori meeting houses) and colleges, etc.

They are still waiting to clear the road and all those people are just having to wait it out before they can get their cars.

Crazy, eh?

It’s pretty freaky cold here as well but at least we don’t have any snow.

Can’t believe it’s October already! Strange to think the weather in Blighty is getting colder and rainy now whilst in Canada can imagine the leaves starting to change colour.

It’s nice and sunny here and it’s great to feel warmer again after a few cold days.

Today we have an ambassador from Korea coming for lunch and his name is … Dr. Oh!!!! Love it!!!! Very James Bond – hope he doesn’t come with a scary sidekick (at least I’ll be in the kitchen so can leave Toby to deal with any dodgy characters).

Will leave you with some carrot cake…

Found out yesterday that a young man from the village hung himself on the weekend. It is just so tragic and I feel so very bad for his gorgeous family. He was a lovely young man, very shy and quiet but always had a smile for us.

A sobering reminder to us all to look out for the ones we love and for those who feel they have no-one to talk to.

Well we all know that, don’t we?!

He went to a school disco on Friday night and was asked out by a girl (the local GP’s daughter nontheless, handy!) and he said yes.

I asked him what that means, where will they go? He said it just means they are girlfriend and boyfriend now but that he doesn’t know what that means really.

I asked if she was pretty and he said that she isn’t pretty like the other girls but that she has a lovely personality.

Ah, that’s my boy!

Well, life is so busy that this seems the easiest way to keep everyone up to date with what we’re up to.

Hope it works for you all and will still email when I get the chance but at least this is so easy to update quickly and can put up photos and such on here too.

Why didn’t I think of this years ago?!

And so last night it continued…the wind machine on the next vineyard kept me awake and I could have really done with some sleep as we had such a busy service and didn’t get to bed until 1am and even then I had to read to unwind after work so the wind machine was the last thing I needed. Bah!

The thrills of living in the countryside – a lamb has been keeping me awake for the past few nights. It is literally like a baby crying non-stop. Help! It’s driving me INSANE!!!!

Okay so here I am, in the land of the blog.

It’s springtime and I’m looking out into the vineyard – the sun is shining, there is literally not a cloud in the sky and life is good.

Feeling a little jaded however as have just finished lunch service in the restaurant and looking forward to a nice cup of tea in the open air.

Was a good service, lots of lovely clients and as I say, the sun is shining so hey, everyone’s happy!

It’s Daffodil Day today – meaning that people come and pick daffodils in the nearby town of Carterton – and we know that spring has really sprung.

Spring always reminds me of my late Gran as it was her favourite season (actually, every season was her favourite season but she really loved the springtime!) She always had daffodils growing as well as snowdrops and she loved to sit and watch the baby birds, spring lambs and all the other treats that this new season brings.
